California Percussion & Backline Rental is the original Cal Perc — founded in San Francisco in 2002 and run, from the first phone call to the last strike, by people who play.

We're the first call for the orchestras, opera companies, recording studios, touring productions, schools, churches, and working musicians of the Bay Area and Northern California — and we ship our specialty instruments nationwide. When you reach us, you're not talking to a sales desk. You're talking to someone who knows what "A=442, lid up" means without asking, because they've sat in the chair.

That's the difference in how the gear shows up. Every instrument is checked, tuned, and made stage-ready before it leaves the shop, and checked again when it comes back — amps and cabinets, guitars and basses, synths and the vintage keys that actually sound like the record; concert percussion, timpani, and mallet instruments; pianos, celesta, and the hard-to-find color instruments (tuned gongs, taxi horns, the Schiedmayer celesta and keyboard glockenspiel) that most houses simply don't carry.

Rentals are quoted per job, so you get exactly what the date needs and nothing you don't. We deliver across the Bay Area and Northern California, ship nationwide, and handle after-hours pickups and emergency drops by arrangement.
